The iconic German aircraft of World War II was the Messerschmitt Me-109, though most were built after they had been re-designated as BF-109s. The G model, known as "Gustav", was one of the last of the series, and one of the most powerful. As the tide of war inexorably turned toward defeat for the Axis powers, the Messerschmitts fought on to the end, even though eventually totally outclassed and outnumbered by the massive Allied fighter strength.
This is a digital revision of an older painting.
